Change Management

What Relevance Has Change Management With Politics ?

Sunday, May 29th, 2011

“He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human institution which rejects progress is the cemetery” (Harold Wilson)

Change is an inevitable part of business strategy planning, but change without effective change management will lead to possible failure and thereafter increased resistance to change.

All organisations need to constantly adapt to change otherwise they will be left behind in an increasingly competitive marketplace. However, the message never fails to be ignored by some whose opinion of Change Management can be summed up as – “It is not necessary to change. Survival is not mandatory”

Change Management and Career Management have a common denominator and that is management, effective management. However, Change Management must be addressed in the context of where the change is taking place; what precisely is the change; what is the purpose of the change; what is the process but most important of all the people who will be affected by the change.

The employees who are affected must buy into the purpose of the change 100% otherwise resistance to change increases and the end result will at best be a demoralised workforce and at worst a total failure.

Companies such as The Career Management Organisation Ltd (TCMO) assist organisations navigate through change. In today’s fast moving marketplace, companies that are flexible and adaptable prosper, while companies that resist change are vulnerable to those who embrace it. Forward thinking companies now aim to give control of the career back to the individual. This process promotes security and trust between employer and employee and offer both parties mutually rewarding futures.

The key words in change management are purpose; process and people. Especially people. “If you want to make enemies, try to change something” (Woodrow Wilson)
