Career Coaching for Generation Z
June 12, 2012
Generation Z are generally recognised as being born between 1995 and 2009, they are sometimes known as the ‘connected generation’.
As of today the oldest will be up to 17 years old so they will possibly still be in education or recently entered the world of work.
They will defined by the technology that surrounds them now and many when entering the workplace over the next 15 years will be doing jobs that don’t exist today.
They are growing up in an ever changing world where the emerging economies have emerged in a sustainable ways that will affect their careers. By nature of this and the ease of global communications makes the world a small place ……..their career coaching needs to appreciate and reflect this.
Career coaching and advice Generation Z will have received will have been a mix of parental advice and school careers guidance.
To work out their individual career coaching needs we look at their specific career traits.
I.E they are growing up in testing times which can only get better so need to keep options open and they will be very smart users of technology.
Career Coaching for Generation Z needs to be generic and not industry specific, it should lean towards a selection of key areas and then have a simple, long term, user friendly plan which encourages people to continually seek career coaching throughout their lives.
